SPRING CONSTANT

All Adama probes are included in the Sader Method - Global Calibration Initiative. This allows you to calibrate each probe by measuring only the resonance frequency (f) and quality factor (Q). Load the Adama probe into your AFM system and align the laser to the end of the cantilever per your system manufacturer’s procedures. Go to the “cantilever tune” area in the system software and click on Thermal Tune to see f and Q of the probe. Then use one of the two methods below to determine the Spring Constant to typically within 5% uncertainty.

Method 1

Go to sadermethod.org and enter f and Q in the @LDV entry for your product model number and the spring constant will be displayed along with an error estimate.

Method 2

Use the measured f and Q, along with the A coefficient  printed on your Adama probe box label, in the spring constant formula

k = A x Q x f^1.3
